I’m thrilled to dive into a topic that might just transform the way you travel and work! Today, I want to chat about how to network like a pro while you're on the go. With my travel business, I’ve learned that the art of networking isn’t about those outdated elevator pitches or stuffing business cards in people's faces. Instead, it’s about genuine connections that can happen anywhere from airports to cruise ships.

Embracing the Tech Upgrades

Before we dive into networking, a quick tech update! I’m trying new recording software—finally experimenting with ECA M, after a year of sitting on a subscription. My usual go-to, StreamYard, decided to hike up their prices, and I questioned why I was paying for multiple services while using just one. So, here I am, embracing change, putting a good use to what I already have paid for and perhaps a little nervous. But that’s growth, right?

The Exciting Roadmap Ahead

The inspiration for this post came as I plan my upcoming adventures to Egypt and a European river cruise. Both trips offer perfect opportunities to harness the power of networking. Traveling with Go Ahead Tours, I've experienced firsthand how each journey is a networking gold mine—whether mingling with fellow travelers on a group tour or sharing insights on a tranquil river cruise.

Networking: More Than Just Conversations

Networking is my secret sauce, a catalyst that has skyrocketed my business. It isn't just about time management or productivity (though those do play a role); it’s about expanding your circle, inviting new energies and ideas into your space.

Ever been at a Starbucks or in a hotel lobby, wondering about that interesting person next to you? Chances are, they could be a potential collaborator or your next best friend who totally gets the entrepreneurial hustle. Networking opens doors you didn’t even know existed.

Redefining Networking in the Modern Era

Forget the pushy sales tactics. Real networking is relationship building—seeing people as individuals first, not clients. Whether you're discussing the wonders of the latest Disney Cruise or sharing breakfast in a hotel lobby, approach others with kindness and curiosity.

Here’s what I’ve learned: airports, cruise terminals, hotel lobbies, and even local co-working spaces are fantastic places to meet new faces. While enjoying these shared experiences, conversations happen more naturally.

Paradox of Networking: Talk Less, Listen More

Always ask yourself, “How can I make this person feel seen?” and “How can I genuinely help them?” I’m all about authentic connections, where you’re not overselling but truly engaging.

From Greeting to Goodbye: The Networking Journey

From the moment you say hello, to the follow-up note showing you care, every step is essential. Never skip the chance to say something nice, ask for recommendations, or just engage in small talk about shared interests. Here are a few easy conversation starters:

- "Where are you headed?"
- "Have you been here before?"
- "I love your [XYZ]. Where did you get it?"

These openers pave the way for real, lasting relationships.

Keep it Effortless and Natural

If conversation flows naturally to your business, casually mention what you do without pitching too hard. Carry a business card or, even better, have a QR code handy that connects people to your profiles or resources.

The real magic happens with the follow-up—send a friendly message within a couple of days, reinforcing your connection based on what you talked about.

Creating a Network That’s Worth Its Weight in Gold

The relationships born out of travel enrich both your personal and business life, creating a diverse network across the globe. Think of your network as your net worth.

So friends, the next time you’re out—whether traveling or just in your hometown—try engaging with those around you. You never know which profound connection you might make. Ready to embrace your magic with me?

If you found value in this, share, and tag a friend or fellow travel entrepreneur on your stories. Spread the word to those who haven’t tuned into the show yet!

Create and own your magic, and let’s grow together!
